Mr. Peter Hamlyn
Consultant Neurological and Spinal Surgeon
Before studying medicine, Mr Peter Hamlyn obtained a first class honours degree in Neuroscience from University College London. He then studied medicine at University College London and qualified in 1982. He went onto complete neurosurgical training at The Royal London Hospital and Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital and was appointed as a Lead Consultant Neurosurgeon at The Royal London Hospital. In 2002, he was appointed Director of the Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University London.
Mr Hamlyn’s recent appointments were as Consultant Neurological and Spinal Surgeon to Saint Bartholomew’s and The Royal London NHS Trust, Director of the Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University London, Vice Chairman of the Brain and Spine Foundation, and he has a Private Practice at the Princess Grace Hospital.
Over the last 20 years, Mr Hamlyn has published a number of publications in peer review journals and now works extensively with professional sports. He was Medical Advisor to the 2012 Olympic Bid. Moreover he has won number of awards including the Roger’s Price for Advances in Medical Science.
Mr Hamlyn’s clinical activity consists currently of some 3,500 outpatient consultations and just over 300 operations per year. The great majority of his work is spinal.
